Skip Bin Hire Melbourne: FAQs

Big Bin Hire are experts on skip bin hire in Melbourne. Base on customer feedback, we have put together some FAQs to help you with your skip bin hire.

Can I get my skip bin today?

Absolutely – we encourage customers to provide 2 working days if a permit is required with your skip bin. But we can easily and happily deliver your skip bin the same day if required. As we are based in Williamstown, skip bin hire in the western suburbs can often be provided within 2 hours of your request.

What are the sizes of your skip bins?

We have 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 15, 20 and 25 cubic metre bins. Click here for further details.

Do I need a permit for my skip bin?

If you are planning on positioning the skip bin on the road or nature strip, you will need a permit from your local council. Our team can arrange this permit when you make the booking. Please keep in mind that most councils have restrictions on where the skip bin can located (eg not restricting road/lane access).

What can I put in the skip bin?

We accept general waste in our skip bins. We do not accept liquid, hazardous waste, asbestos and full paint tins.

Please keep in mind that the size of skip you order may limit the waste type you can put in the skip bin.

Currently we are accepting:

  • Light Builder’s Waste – plaster board, metal, timber, steel
  • Heavy Builder’s Waste – Bricks, concrete, soil
  • 100% loads – Soil only
  • 100% loads – Green waste
  • 100% loads – Timber
  • 100% loads – Metal/steel
  • 100% loads – Concrete
  • 100% loads – Bricks
  • Household waste

For 100% loads of bricks, soil, concrete and Heavy Builder’s Waste the MAXIMUM size skip bin we can provide is 6m3.

For all other load types, we can provide a skip bin from 4-20m3.

How much notice do I need to give to order the skip bin?

We pride ourselves on efficient delivery and when possible, we can have a bin to you on the same day. This will depend on how busy we are of course, so the more notice you provide the better. Generally speaking, you can have a skip bin within 24 hours.

Do you recycle my rubbish?

We take recycling seriously. Our team will sort your rubbish by category and dispose of it accordingly.
We aim to avoid dumping your waste at the tip.

We can offer reduced pricing for the following:

  • 100% loads – Cleanfill
  • 100% loads – Green waste
  • 100% loads – Timber
  • 100% loads – Metal/steel
  • 100% loads – Concrete
  • 100% loads – Bricks

When ordering your skip bin, please talk to us about reduced pricing for 100% loads.

How long can I have the skip bin for?

We hire our skip bins for up to 3 days (including drop off and pick up) and you can arrange for your skip bin to be picked up earlier if required.
We are happy to negotiate a longer period of skip bin hire – additional charges apply.
